Chief of Party-Malawi (VMMC)

Job Description

Right to Care Malawi a local not for profit organisation is at the vanguard in supporting and delivering prevention, care, and treatment services for HIV and associated diseases. We work with government and communities to find pioneering solutions to build and strengthening public healthcare.

Our areas of expertise include HIV and TB care and treatment, Maternal and childcare and education programs, pharmacy automation, medical male circumcision, and cervical cancer diagnosis and treatment.

RTC -Malawi in collaboration with PSI will be implementing VMMC project in two districts of Mulanje and Phalombe Districts in the southern region. RTC-Malawi seeks to fill the open positions on 

fixed term contract

 and to be based at our 

Blantyre Offices

Reporting to: Country Director

The Chief of Party is a critical position and requires an exceptional individual who can provide overall expert leadership, management, and strategic vision to the activity. The Chief of Party is expected to have the ability to exercise significant delegation of authority, allowing for on-site decisions.



· 7-10 years of demonstrated successful leadership in managing large, complex HIV programs within a developing country context

· Demonstrated leadership in fostering successful partnership approaches and relationships among a variety of varying organizations/institutions

· Background in clinical service delivery and program management, including the use of data for decision-making

· Demonstrated experience in working with government and non-governmental organizations to yield results toward common goals

· Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing

Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with senior level government officials, donors, private for profit and non-profit sectors


· Ability to work autonomously and prioritise own workload

· Ability to deal sensitively with confidential matters

· Excellent Reporting and writing skills

· Ability to work as part of a team

· Resilience under pressure

Willingness to travel and work for long hours


· Reporting to the HIV/AIDS Team within USAID/Malawi’s Office of Health, Population and Nutrition and meeting with USAID on a regular basis

· Providing leadership and expertise in HIV service delivery and coordination of development assistance efforts for the PEPFAR Malawi program

· Mentoring, supporting and supervising activity staff and facilitating the development of all activity deliverables, ensuring timely submission and quality of all work plans, reports, and checklist submissions, compliant with the cooperative agreement

Assuring necessary program planning, development, resource availability and

management activities function smoothly and efficiently

The EQUIP Consortium

 is led by Right to Care (RTC) in collaboration with four other Africa based Partners. The EQUIP Consortium provides countries with innovative and customized solutions that increase HIV testing and linkage to care, widens the coverage of ART, expands capacity for viral load monitoring and improves retention of patients on ART. With the support of USAID, EQUIP is designed to provide rapid responses to the needs of high-priority PEPFAR countries.
