The Opportunity

Save the Children is inviting applications from suitably qualified personnel to fill the position of 

Inclusive Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) Coordinator


 

under Inclusive Education Project in Mzimba South. The position holder will be responsible for leading implementation of the IECCD project interventions, including working with the local implementing partner and other stakeholders to improve ECCD access and learning outcomes for deprived children especially children with disabilities, children from ultra-poor families and children deprived from a gender perspective (girls). S/he will also be responsible for capacity strengthening of the local implementing partner, Government departments at the district level (Offices of the DEM, DHO and DSWO), representative organizations for deprived children, including Community Based Childcare Centres (CBCCs) and community structures in line with policies and standards of SC. Furthermore, he/she will be responsible for developing monthly and quarterly project plans and budgets and quarterly, annual and End of Project reports; and coordinate implementation, monitoring and reporting of the same; ensuring that best practices in inclusive ECCD are documented and disseminated to inform policy and practice at community, district and national levels.


In order to be successful you will bring/have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Early Childhood Development, psychology, Community Development, social work or other social sciences, children studies, or other appropriate fields.
  • Additional training on Basic ECD, inclusive education models/approaches, Child protection, psychosocial support or special needs education will be an added advantage
  • At least three to five years of coordination experience in the field of ECD, Inclusive Education and/or Protection of vulnerable groups in Government or with international organizations;
  • Knowledge of child focussed programming
  • Knowledge of gender and human rights issues
  • Knowledge of Inclusive Education or Special Needs Education
  • Knowledge of Child protection practices including Psycho-social support
  • Strong negotiation skills, preferably in advocacy.
  • Skills in community mobilization, especially involvement of parents in supporting learning for their children
  • Creativity and ability to work independently and remain productive under minimal supervision.
  • Experience working with Nongovernmental organizations and government officials essential.
  • At least five years’ experience of implementing donor funded contracts
  • Strong computer skills: must be competent in the use of Windows, MS office programs (Word, Excel), and email programs.
  • Good financial management skills
  • Excellent facilitation and training skills
  • Honest, reliable and a good work ethic
  • Good understanding of international standards and guidance around Inclusive Education
  • Ability to interact skilfully and diplomatically with numerous counterparts
