Senior Engineer Infrastructure (Power & Hardware)

The Elizabeth Glaser Paediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF) is a recognized global leader in the fight against HIV/AIDS.  In its work to eliminate paediatric AIDS through research, advocacy, and prevention and treatment programs, EGPAF currently supports national, district, and local governments, facilities, communities, and non-governmental partners. In 2020, EGPAF’s global footprint spans 17 countries.  EGPAF supports service provision for comprehensive HIV care, treatment and prevention programs, and health systems strengthening. To date, EGPAF has supported over 15,000 sites to offer HIV counselling, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment services alongside high-quality family health care.

EGPAF has worked in Malawi since 2001. Today, EGPAF Malawi implements evidence?based HIV prevention, care and treatment interventions in 151 health facilities in nine districts through EGPAF’s U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief/U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (PEPFAR/CDC) ?funded Achieving HIV Epidemic Control through Scaling Up Quality Testing, Care and Treatment in Malawi.

EGPAF seeks to fill the following open positions:

Senior Engineer Infrastructure (Power & Hardware)

Reports to      :           Lead Network Engineer

Position Summary:

The candidate will be deployed to other sites in others districts based on technical support needs as determined by the Lead Network Engineer. The Senior Hardware Engineer will among other things expected to lead a team of all hardware & Power Engineers, overseeing all installation and Configuration and document all implemented power solutions across all sites designated to him/her.

The Essential Duties and Responsibilities will include but not limited to;

  • Lead a team of Hardware and power Engineers providing mentor-ship and support.
  • Lead and oversee all installation, configuration, support and troubleshooting of all Power and Hardware related issues.
  • Document all implemented power solutions.
  • Power systems monitoring and reporting on uptime and downtime.
  • Monthly reports of all issues reported, resolved, outstanding and action plans.
  • Follow up on all hardware and power reported issues and ensure they are timely closed.
  • Identify and resolve power and electrical related issues in facilities.
  • Installation of Solar panel systems for power backup in health facilities following the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).
  • Install all power backup batteries in facilities following Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).
  • Troubleshooting and fixing electric and power backup systems in facilities.
  • Troubleshooting and fixing faulty hardware and facility EMR equipment ie J2, EBN, printers, scanners, power supply, network and computer equipment.
  • Recommend for installation, replacement and/or disposition of hardware equipment in facilities.

  • Mentor HIS Officers on basic hardware and power systems support.
  • Escalation point of all unsolved issues of hardware and power to management for resolution
  • Conduct quarterly preventative maintenance  in line with SOPs.

Required Qualifications and attributes

  • Bachelor’s Degree in electrical engineering, related technical discipline (strongly preferred) or equivalent education and experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in a technical capacity supporting large scale enterprise hardware and power solutions.
  • Subject matter expert and experience in installation, maintenance, and configuration hybrid power backup systems.
  • 5 years experience with electronics equipment including ens user Workstations, Computers, Routers, Switches etc. Should also be capable of conducting site assessment to identify issues and gaps in power and hardware.
  • Working experience in a maintenance role in a similar environment and dealt with continuous maintenance and support activities.
  • Strong organization, analytical, communication, decision making and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to and work at field locations.
  • Ability to work effectively with others, supporting others, influencing others, interpersonal awareness, following and effective communications skills
  • Ability to lead others by motivating, developing, delegating, and taking charge when necessary
  • Able to work in a demanding environment and demonstrate integrity over resources
