PROJECT DESCRIPTION AND POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Study Coordinator will support an NIMH-funded implementation science study on HIV voluntary assisted contact tracing (ACT). ACT is an evidence-based practice that efficiently identifies HIV-infected persons in need of HIV treatment and HIV-uninfected persons in need of HIV prevention. Malawi, like many countries in sub-Saharan Africa, has adopted ACT policies. However, Malawi’s ACT implementation has been sub-optimal due to deficits in health worker capacity and clinical coordination. Our team is a collaboration between the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Tingathe, a Malawi-based PEPFAR implementing partner that supports Malawi’s Ministry of Health. Through this grant, we will build on our team’s preliminary work to 1) finalize a set of implementation strategies (theory-based health worker training and continuous quality improvement); 2) package these strategies into a blended learning platform that combines digital and face-to-face modalities; and 3) rigorously evaluate the package for implementation, service uptake, and cost-effectiveness outcomes.
The study coordinator is the operational lead of the study. He/she will lead study planning, formative work, trial launch, and implementation. The coordinator will serve as the primary liaison with district-level staff, investigators, and others. He/she will supervise research and project staff and ensure all study recruitment, retention, and data collection targets are met.
