Systems Engineer

The Elizabeth Glaser Paediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF) is a recognized global leader in the fight against HIV/AIDS.  In its work to eliminate paediatric AIDS through research, advocacy, and prevention and treatment programs, EGPAF currently supports national, district, and local governments, facilities, communities, and non-governmental partners. In 2020, EGPAF’s global footprint spans 17 countries.  EGPAF supports service provision for comprehensive HIV care, treatment and prevention programs, and health systems strengthening. To date, EGPAF has supported over 15,000 sites to offer HIV counselling, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment services alongside high-quality family health care.

EGPAF has worked in Malawi since 2001. Today, EGPAF Malawi implements evidence?based HIV prevention, care and treatment interventions in 151 health facilities in nine districts through EGPAF’s U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief/U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (PEPFAR/CDC) ?funded Achieving HIV Epidemic Control through Scaling Up Quality Testing, Care and Treatment in Malawi.

EGPAF seeks to fill the following open positions:

Systems Engineer

Position Summary:

The Systems Engineer among other things will be expected to lead and oversee all installation, configuration and troubleshooting of all datacenter and virtualized environment related issues. The candidate will be deployed to other sites in others districts based on technical support needs as determined by the Lead Network Engineer

The Essential Duties and Responsibilities will include but not limited to;

  • Lead and oversee all installation, configuration, support and troubleshooting of all datacentre and Virtualized environment related issues.
  • Document all datacentre design implemented.
  • Identify gaps and suggest improvements to have optimally performing services hosted in the datacentre.
  • Follow up on all datacentre reported issues and ensure they are timely closed.
  • Effectively monitor all services in the datacentre to ensure high availability and minimize.
  • Schedule server and datacentre updates on all systems and ensure optimal performance after the updates.
  • Report and make follow ups with service providers on 3rd party related issues.
  • Provide overall solution to all Server and datacentre infrastructure related issues that are logged by Service Desk.
  • Plan maintenance of all IT infrastructure and ensure maintenance is carried out as per set           guidelines.
  • Carry out daily reviews of faults / incident logs to identify recurring faults.
  • Carry out user management and administration work on the MOH domain in line with    approved access levels.
  • Conduct security checks on the MOH server and datacentre infrastructure in conjunction with IT Security to ensure compliance.
  • Participate in project implementation as assigned.
  • Ensure that Operating Systems and other software products are installed and configured according to IT best practice standards.

Required Qualifications and attributes

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma in computer science, information technology or related technical discipline or equivalent education and experience.
  • 5+ years of experience with VMWare Virtualization solution and Veeam Backup and replication.
  • 5+ years of experience with Datacentre Monitoring.
  • 5+ years of experience with Server Virtualization.
  • 5+ years of experience with services such as DNS, DHCP, SNMP, SMTP, FTP, HTTPS.
  • Expert level experience with the following protocols and technologies:  EIGRP, OSFP, BGP, MPLS, STP and HSRP.
  • Subject matter expert experience installing, maintaining, and configuring Virtual environment and Storage Systems.
  • Working experience in a maintenance role in a similar environment and dealt with continuous maintenance and support.
  • Experience in Datacentre Preventative Maintenance.
  • Strong organization, analytical, communication, decision making and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to and work at field locations.
  • Ability to work effectively with others, supporting others, influencing others, interpersonal awareness, following and effective communications skills
  • Ability to lead others by motivating, developing, delegating, and taking charge when necessary
  • Able to work in a demanding environment and demonstrate integrity over resources
